The picture on the left is known as al-Aqsa Mosque. A very few people know that it is not al-Aqsa Mosque. It is Dome of Rock (Qubba tus-Sakhra). Al-Aqsa Mosque is the one shown on the right.

Most of the Muslims believe that the mosque referred to in the Holy Quran, in Sura Bani Israa'eel is that al-Aqsa Mosque that stands today. (Shown on the left). Actually it is the building made by Umayyad King Abdul Malik, many year after the death of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Al-Aqsa Mosque first built by Prophet Solomon (PBUH) was similar to the one shown on the right. (It is an imaginary picture, as Romans destroyed it in 70 AD). It is also known as Beit al-Maqdas or Temple of Solomon.

Now-a-days the holy city in which al-Aqsa Mosque is situated is called Beit al-Maqdas. (Shown on the left). Actually Beit al-Maqdas is not the name of this city. Beit al-Maqdas is another name of the Temple of Solomon. (Shown on the right). The name of the holy city in which Beit al-Maqdas is situated is Jerusalem.

For some years Muslims have started calling Jerusalem or Beit al-Maqdas by the term Haram. So it is being considered that three cities are Haram. (See map on the left). It is against Shariah. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) declared only Makka and Madina and the region between these two cities as Haram. (See map on the right). |
